A Year Older and a Lot more Unwise (Part 1 of the Birthday Trilogy)

A quarter of a century under my belt. My My. An achievement? Not really! - it definitely wasn't anything I did which made me get up alive all those many mornings.

Introspection. Birthdays do that to me. Besides the Thanks and Praise to God for the Amazing things that He has done for me through the years, I also make it a point to evaluate myself.

I remember attending a youth meeting several years ago. We were asked to rate our relationship with God on a scale of 1 to 10. I gave myself a 4. And then a boy I knew to be what I defined 'highly spiritual' - def. much more than me anyway, rated himself a 2.

I was angry with him. It was 'no time for false modesty' I told him. I mean, who was he really kidding - a 2??

It took me sometime. But I see it now. I don't think it makes 'sense', but the more I learn about God, the more I understand there is to learn. The closer I get, the more distance I see to cover. The better I think I am, the more I see need to change.

I remember a UB40 song (that I couldn't understand at the time I first heard it either), which sums it up:

"And every hour of every day I'm learning more
The more I learn, the less I know about before
The less I know, the more I want to look around
Digging deep for clues on higher ground"

Hey, the road maybe narrow, but it sure is an amazing ride!!
